Why I Left Minnesota for the Pacific Northwest
A few months ago, my wife Raven and I made a decision that surprised a lot of people. We left Minnesota and moved to the Pacific Northwest.
After spending most of my life in Minnesota, it wasn’t a decision I made lightly. Minnesota is where I built businesses, raised a family, formed lifelong friendships, and created countless memories. It will always be a part of who I am.
But sometimes life has a way of nudging you toward something new.
For years, I had been drawn to the mountains, forests, and rugged coastline of the Pacific Northwest. Every photo, every video, and every story I encountered seemed to pull me west. There was something about the landscape that spoke to me in a way I couldn’t fully explain.
At the same time, I was changing.
After building and selling a successful business, I found myself asking questions I hadn’t asked before. What did I want the next chapter of my life to look like? What experiences was I still waiting to have? How much longer was I going to keep putting things off until “someday”?
Eventually, Raven and I stopped talking about it and started making plans.
We downsized. We packed up our lives. We moved into our Airstream. Then we pointed our truck west and began the journey to Washington.
Leaving wasn’t easy.
Minnesota is home to people I love. It’s where many of my favorite memories were made. There are still days when I miss the familiar roads, the North Shore of Lake Superior, and the places that helped shape me.
But there was also excitement.
Every mile west felt like we were moving toward something new. Not necessarily something better, but something different. Sometimes that’s exactly what we need.
Since arriving in Washington, I’ve spent countless hours exploring trails, standing beneath towering trees, and taking in mountain views that still don’t feel real. The Pacific Northwest has a way of making you slow down and pay attention. The forests are quieter. The mountains feel bigger. The pace feels different.
What I’ve discovered isn’t just a new place to live.
I’ve discovered that it’s never too late to start over.
You don’t have to be in your twenties to make a major life change. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t need a perfect plan.
Sometimes you just need the courage to take the first step.
Do I miss Minnesota? Absolutely.
Am I glad we made the move? Without question.
The Pacific Northwest isn’t just a new location on a map. For me, it represents a new chapter. One filled with adventure, exploration, growth, and the reminder that life is still full of possibilities.
And honestly, I can’t wait to see where the road leads next.
